Remorse

I recently donated 12 boxes of books to a charity shop. It felt good to lighten the load for the upcoming move, but I am having great remorse. I want my books back. Damn!

Let go, Ursula, let go!

Books are some of the hardest things for me to get rid of, but I'm going to have to go through my own and take some of them off to the 2nd hand bookstore, because I just don't have enough shelf space for them.

12 boxes? Shit, Ursula, that's a ton of books to get rid of. But if you don't have the space, you don't have the space and I bet that if you think back to the rationale that used to get the books out of the house in the first place, you'll feel better. I face a similar dilema. When I came back from my Dad's place in LA last weekend, I brought back 8 more boxes of books. This is go along with the dozen crates that are hiding behind my couch. I have to choose whether to pare my collection back or suck it up and line the wall with bookcases. Honestly, I don't know what to do. At some point I have to pour over my collection and make a decision on each book. Is this a book I really need? Do I want to pass this book onto my kids (or nieces and nephews)? It's going to painstaking, but I'm sure I'll feel good afterwards. Give yourself a break. They're just books, which means, if you really need to, you can get them all back.

I did something like this too about a year ago..i took all my paperback novels about 300 of them to the library....for the Friends of the Library book sale. I regretted it as soon as I walked back to the car. Now
I do not miss them and the added space on the book shelf is better.

I failed to mention that I still have over 300 hardcover books. So I really shouldn't be feeling remorseful. But oh how I still do miss them.
